Following your first training area solo, you will complete further advanced training to refine and improve on your aircraft general handling.
Successful completion of the Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) will indicate that you are competent to fly the aeroplane to the required standard; however you are yet to learn the art of navigation over long distances.
Introduced from 1 September 2014, the RPL replaces the student pilot licence and general flying progress test (GFPT) that existed under the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988.
The RPL is the first official pilot licence you will attain, and the privileges that go with it can be exercised immediately, once signed off by the Authorised Testing Officer. As the holder of an RPL, you are able to carry passengers within the Training Area.
Before completing your RPL you will need to complete the Radio Theory and Basic Aeronautical Knowledge Examinations. Students are able to self study for these examinations, or are able to sit in on part time or full time theory training courses throughout the year with the WA Aviation College.
