SCHOLARSHIPS

Air BP Tom Millar Scholarship for 2012

Kindly donated by Air BP, these scholarships will provide the successful candidates the financial assistance to enable further training with the Royal Aero Club of Western Australia.

There are three scholarships with a total value of $10,000, which are divided into the following categories:-

GFPT   -   value $4,000

PPL     -    value $3,000

CPL     -    value $3,000

Applications are open to all Club members who pass a Flight Test in any of the above categories between 1 August 2011 and 31 July 2012.  Closing date is 1 August 2012 and candidates may only apply for 1 category in 1 year.

Scholarships will be awarded on the assessment of a candidate’s overall performance during their flight test and final selections will be made by RACWA’s Approved Testing Officer (ATO) group.

Winners will be announced at the Wings Presentation Dinner on Saturday, 25th August 2012 and they will also be notified in writing.

The funds will be held in trust until such time as the recipients undertake further flying training with the Royal Aero Club of WA.  It is also a condition upon acceptance of a scholarship that this training must be completed within 12 months from the date of the notification letter.

 AWARDS

Sir Norman Brearley Award

The award consists of:

1. A printed and framed certificate signed by Sir Norman Brearley.
2. Inscription of the awardees name(s) on an honour board at the Royal Aero Club of Western Australia.
3. An invitation for the awardee, plus partner to attend the Royal Aero Club’s Annual Wings Dinner where the presentation will be made.

Nomination Criteria:

1. The award shall be open to all pilots in Western Australia.
2. Any pilot who demonstrates “above average” ability at any stage of his/her flying career, eg PPL,CPL any Rating/Endorsement etc is eligible to be nominated by a qualified Flying Instructor.
3. The pilot concerned may be required to undertake a Flight Test (at own expense) with a designated Testing Officer and an interview with the Award Board, if deemed necessary.
4. The aim of the award is to encourage pilots to improve their standard of flying to one which can be classed as “above average”.

The Club has been vested with the responsibility to administer the award process and select the successful applicant.

Candidates for this award are considered throughout the year with the winner for 2010 to be announced at the Royal Aero Club's Annual Wings Presentation Dinner in August. 

 

 

Christopher Little Award

 Kindly donated by Christopher's family in his memory, this award is presented to a Commercial Pilot who has completed all of his/her training at Racwa and has been selected on the basis of outstanding effort and achievement (e.g. hard work to raise finances).

Nominations for this award are conducted via internal process by the Racwa Instructor Team.  Nominations for 2009 have now closed.

 

John Douglas Instructor Graduate Award

Awarded to a candidate who has demonstrated exceptional ability in their completion of the Royal Aero Club's Instructor Rating Course within the last 12 months.

WA Airways Award

Presented in recognition if a standard of excellence achieved by a pilot on a Command Instrument Rating course with the Royal Aero Club.

Nominations for this award are conducted via internal process by the Royal Aero Club Instructor Team in July each year. Nominations for 2011 are now being considered.

 

Neil Baird Clubman Award

For outstanding service to the Club in an honorary capacity.

Members are encouraged to submit nominations for the Clubman Award in July each year.
Nominations for 2011 are now invited.

 

Eclectic Trophy

Awarded to a pilot who has participated successfully in the open section of the Flying Competitions over the past twelve months.

2010 Winner

  • Sylvia Byers

This award is based on aggregate points achieved at select Club Competions for the previous twelve months (August through July).

The selection process for 2011 is now underway.

 

The Adkins Trophy

This trophy is specifically for new competitors, as an incentive for greater membership participation in flying competitions; awarded to a candidate for participation in the preceding twelve months.

RFACA LEARN TO FLY SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

Sponsored by: AIRSERVICES AUSTRALIA

Value: FOUR Prizes valued at $6000 each (Total prize value $24000)

Age: Must be 16 years at announcement of winner

Flying Completed: Flying must be completed within twelve months from winning competition

How to enter: Just take a Trial Introductory Flight with an RFACA member Club

How does it work: CFI's will assess each student and choose the top 10% of entrants at each Club. These names will be put into a barrel and the three winners will be drawn.

Prize: The $6000 worth of flying is not redeemable.

Announcement of Winner: At RFACA Annual Flying Training Conference on 16th March 2010.
The winner will also be announced in 'The Australian' newspaper.
